Silver Crest Award
Posted on: 02/11/2022The CREST Awards scheme is the British Science Association’s flagship programme for young people, providing science enrichment activities to inspire and engage 14-16-year old students. It is a nationally recognised accreditation scheme for project work in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. Following the success of our previous Year 11 cohort (21-22), Nower Hill has offered the SIlver CREST award to our current Year 11 students.
This half term our students have picked the titles for their dissertation reports, and planned the approach for their investigations. We have a range of exciting investigations; titles include: “investigating the bacteria and purity in tap water from different boroughs”; “comparing the effect of natural and commercial disinfectants on bacteria levels”; and “investigating the effect of caffeine on reaction time”.
We look forward to reporting on the practical investigations of our six groups, and sharing their findings with you next half term. We are also very pleased to see so many of our current Year 12 students (who previously passed with a Silver or Gold award), return to mentor and support our current participating groups.
“We really enjoyed the Silver CREST award, so being able to support the younger years in having a similar experience is great. We hope they get as much out of it as we did, and are really looking forward to hearing their ideas and approaches to the titles they have chosen!” ~ STEM Silver CREST ambassadors.
