Black History Month: Celebration of STEM Professionals

Posted on: 02/11/2022

In celebration of Black History Month, Nower Hill students have started all Science lessons with a short video from an excelling black professional in a STEM career. STEM ambassadors collated five questions, which were given to various professionals to answer in detail.

Students benefited greatly from our STEM professionals providing an insight into their careers, the contribution it has made to society, and the massive importance of diversity. So far, this month we have heard from;

•Farzana Hampshire (Mechanical engineer)

•Meranda Gomez (Facial Aesthetician)

•Simone Shephard (Civil Engineer)

•Professor Chamberlain (Mathematician)

•Aurore Lawson (Engineer)

•Dr Osborne (Neuropsychiatrist)

•Perry McGowan (Biochemist)

•Dr Udofia (General Practitioner)

•Peter Hayes (Biomedical Scientist)

Student voice has informed us they found the video series “very interesting and inspiring”. We would like to thank our sixth form STEM ambassadors for their insightful and well thought out questions- and most importantly, the STEM professionals for being so generous with their time and knowledge.

“I really liked that the videos all started with ‘Hello Nower Hill Scientists’, it made the video series feel very conversational. I found the video by Aurore Lawson so interesting- her professional journey was inspiring!” ~ Hana, Year 10.
