Governance Vacancies
Do you remember your time at high school? It was probably one of the most influential periods in your life.
Being a school governor is a rewarding role where your skills will be valued and you can help to make sure every student has the very best experience.
About our school
Nower Hill is a happy, busy and highly successful secondary school (11-18), which welcomes all children from our local community, whatever their ability or background. We are here to ensure that every student achieves as much as possible during their time at our school, eventually leaving us as the best version of themselves they can possibly be. We want our students to enjoy their education so that they value learning, both in and out of the classroom, and can look back fondly on their time at school.
About the role
As a co-opted Governor, you would be a valued member of our Governing Board, playing a vital strategic role in ensuring the school delivers high standards of education, maintains financial integrity and is a safe and happy environment for students and staff.
Co-opted governors are appointed based on the skills, experience and commitment they can bring to the board. These skills could have been gained from working within education, but could also be transferable from areas such as finance, communications, HR, IT, academia or strategic management. Please note, parents/carers of Nower Hill students should not apply, as we have a separate parent-governor category, which is an elected post.
Responsibilities include:
-
Attending meetings and actively contributing to discussions and decisions
-
Monitoring school performance and supporting the leadership team
-
Ensuring financial accountability, through scrutinising budgets
-
Upholding our safeguarding duties—ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students remains at the heart of every decision
-
Championing the school’s values
Meetings are held in the evenings and governors are expected to attend 8 meetings each year, plus occasional visits during the school day. Your employer is legally obliged to grant you time off to fulfil governor duties when they fall during working hours.
You don’t have to be an expert in education, but you will have a willingness to learn and contribute your skills, as we welcome interest from all walks of life to bring different perspectives and views. We are particularly keen to encourage applicants who reflect the diversity of our students.
