Children's Mental Health Week

Posted on: 20/02/2023

Nower Hill celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week and our wonderful 6th Form Representatives planned a whole range of exciting activities for the students. The theme for this year's week was ‘Let's Connect’. When we have healthy connections - to family, friends and others - this can support our mental health and our sense of wellbeing. Let's Connect is about making meaningful connections for all.

To coincide with Safer Internet Day, as part of the Personal Development Topic, students looked at connecting through Technology and watched a video of Ian Wright reuniting with one of his school teachers. Students were reminded that they can make connections with people when they are young that can stay with them for the rest of their lives and bring a sense of joy or inspiration.

During the week, the 6th Form Wellbeing Team met with the Wellbeing Ambassadors to discuss all matters to do with Wellbeing. It was great to hear that our students appreciate all of the initiatives that we have in place at the moment and we will take their suggestions on board.

You might have heard from your child, that we have been playing music this term as they have been entering for assembly. This is to help broaden their musical knowledge whilst also showcasing artists from different eras and genres.

On Wednesday, our 6th Form Senior Student Leaders (SSL) held our first Year 11 Vs Sixth Form Tournament. After a closely contested match, Year 11 came out as the overall winners. A big well done to all the students that took part. It was brilliant to see students coming and connecting together through sport.

Our annual Wellbeing Fair returned this year after the launch in 2022. The 6th Formers planned a range of activities and stalls. It was lovely to see the hall full of students as they took part in the different activities.

The Year 7s were given the task to redesign our "Helping Hands" poster. Well Done to Yusuf 7NH who was our overall winner.

To end the week, all students looked at our Wellbeing page during registration. Our Wellbeing page was recently showcased in the YoungMinds national e-newsletter sent to many schools around the UK.
