Youth Health Champions Programme
Posted on: 17/04/2023We have mentioned before that at Nower Hill we aim to provide extra curricular programmes to support the physical, social, and academic growth of our students. Currently, we have 11 students enrolled and participating in the Youth Health Champions (YHC) programme, run by the Royal Society for Public Health.
The YHC programme teaches young people between the ages of 14 and 24 about managing their health and wellbeing. The model is designed to give young people the skills, knowledge and confidence to act as peer mentors, increasing awareness of healthy lifestyles and encouraging involvement in activities to promote good health. It is a national programme with over 2,500 young people participating in many schools over the last 5 years.
Currently, our students' very own community projects will see them visiting and presenting at various Primary Schools in our local area. The students also plan to visit Form groups in school in order to increase their peers' knowledge on what support they can access online and in the local area. Mr Gilbey, Mrs Quinn, and Mrs Neminathan have worked hard to help the 11 students push towards achieving their Level 2 qualifications.
Good luck to these young people!
