The CREST Awards
Posted on: 17/04/2023The CREST Awards scheme is the British Science Association’s flagship programme for young people, providing science enrichment activities to inspire and engage 14-16-year old students. It is a nationally recognised accreditation scheme for project work in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. 29 Year 11 Nower Hill students are currently pursuing the award.
Students have worked tirelessly in weekly Silver Crest Workshops, where they have learnt how to research Scientific journals, Harvard reference, and structure a scientific report. They have designed detailed practical procedures, to investigate their hypotheses.
Following on from last half term, where our students researched and planned their investigations, groups have now executed practicals and collected relevant data. Practicals have included distillations, aseptic techniques and writing code to measure reaction times.
Sixth Form STEM ambassadors provided our Year 11 students with guidance and feedback. We are so very proud of the scientific and problem solving skills our groups have shown so far.
We look forward to sharing their findings with you next half term. We are also very pleased to see the leadership demonstrated by our current Year 12 students (who previously passed with a Silver or Gold award), in their mentorship of current participating groups.
