Year 8 Trip to watch Game Over: The Case of Breck Bednar

Posted on: 03/05/2022

On Tuesday 26th April, we took 300 Year 8 students to Hatch End High School to watch a performance of Game Over. This is a play on the case of Breck Bednar, a 14 year old boy who was groomed over an online gaming platform and tragically murdered in 2014.

This performance is the result of a cross collaboration project between Year 11 students from Nower Hill High School & Hatch End High School, who have spent the past few months working incredibly hard alongside The Breck Foundation to bring this tragic story to life, with the aim to raise awareness of child exploitation and online grooming.

The Year 8 students found this play to be really thought-provoking, awakening as to the dangers of grooming online and a fantastic opportunity to witness their peers perform such a tragic, but real life story. In addition to seeing the production, a select group of students were chosen to participate in specialist workshops on the topic of Online Grooming, run by staff from The Breck Foundation

The Year 11 students performing Game Over did an outstanding job of bringing this play to life, showcasing incredible compassion, emotion and attention to detail in the performance. The Year 11s performed this production 5 times over both Monday 25th & Tuesday 26th April to students from 4 different local secondary schools, as well as parents, carers, staff, governors and representatives from the local community & The Breck Foundation.
