The School Council consists of elected members from Years 7-11.The council members meet with their Year Co-ordinators and members of the Sixth Form Student Leadership Team to discuss issues of importance to the school community.  It is an energetic body that meets with staff and guest speakers. It receives a wide spectrum of student opinion from which come recommendations regarding the working of the school.  The council representatives have the lead role in communicating ideas and attend regular council meetings in addition to meetings with Senior Management and the school Governors. Several members of our School Council are on the Harrow Youth Council. Here they voice their opinions to a Borough and London- wide audience.  Over the year we invite a number of guest speakers to talk to the Student Council, including the British Legion, Harrow Road Safety officer, Metropolitan Police Safer Neighbourhood Team, TFL, School caterers, St Luke’s Hospice and Age Concern.

Charity plays a big part in the community drive at Nower Hill High School. Every Harvest Festival we celebrate by collecting several shopping trollies of food which is gifted to the elderly of Milman’s Day Care Centre. Year on year our Poppy appeal total rises. Termly Mufti days are very much enjoyed as a fun way to raise money for designated charities. For £1 the students get to wear their own clothes for the last day of term. This adds to the joy and sense of community celebration as we go into a holiday period. Cake sales are an excellent way for students to raise money as they are always well supported.

In addition to spontaneous individual charity actions taken by students, each year group is encouraged to adopt a charity. The whole year group working with the Form Tutors, Year Coordinators and charity fundraisers focus on a particular charity. In the past such charities as St Luke’s Hospice, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, Marie Curie, Teenage Cancer Trust have benefitted from student fund raising. Nower Hill High School staff also support charities in many ways ranging from London to Windsor  bike rides, walking Hadrian’s wall . Charity is a strength at Nower Hill High School and it is reflected in our dealings with each other and the wider community through real active citizenship.
